You should never say never!

As a physician, I am careful to avoid using either the word “always” or the word “never” when talking to patients about any health issues. Anything in life is possible, and nothing is predictable. A situation might seem hopeless may turn around and improve, and conversely, someone may be improving steadily and take a sudden turn for the worse.

When my second marriage dissolved, I resolved never to marry again. Why bother? I wasn’t going to have any more kids! There would never be a reason that I would need to be married, right?

Well, never say never!

I’m now engaged, and preparing to be married in 37 days and counting (how do I know that it’s 37 days? because we’re using The Knot to stay organized).

Why the change of heart? Well, there are a number of reasons, some practical, some less so. Suffice it to say, every day I feel like this is the right decision, and I have no regrets. Everything seems to be falling into place, which seems to support the feeling that I have that this is finally the right person for me. It seems a shame that it took us so long to find one another, but I suspect that we wouldn’t have recognized each other as “the one” if we had met earlier in our lives, so rather than question the timing, I’m just moving forward and enjoying it.

My first real engagement ring! Amethyst, my favorite.
