About Me

I am an assistant professor of medicine, specialized in treating HIV/AIDS.  I am currently on the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, in the Institute of Human Virology.

I was born in London, England, and grew up in California (both north and south).  My father was from Sri Lanka, and my mother is American.  I am a typical American mutt – mixed in blood, and experience and outlook.

This blog was initially started to post photos of my travels to Africa and elsewhere, but it’s become a place to post random thoughts…now, mostly about our multinational family – English, American, Ethiopian!

I live in suburban Maryland, with my husband, a physician-scientist who works for the Food & Drug Administration and runs a research lab.  We have one grown daughter, and two adopted boys, S and J, who keep us young in body and spirit.  They are truly a gift and blessing in our lives, and I can’t imagine life without them.

Lovely to “meet” you, too! As you may have noticed, I’ve been inactive for the summer – keep thinking about how to write about this summer. Lots of posts in my head, but not made it to the blog. Good luck, and enjoy this last year!! And, best wishes for the Match!
